Jerusalem
Ladies have you ever dreamed of crossing the country on foot? Then now is your chance to fulfil your dream!
You may remember that last year six ladies from the After 8 Group set off from Barrow in Furness to walk the Cumbrian Way. Sadly, due to a couple of injuries and bad weather, only three of the group made it to the final stage in Carlisle, but all enjoyed the warm-up for what was planned for the future.
Next year we are going to attempt the walk from Coast to Coast— that is to say from St Bee's Head in Cumbria to Robin Hood's Bay in North Yorkshire. Already several intrepid ladies have committed themselves to walk the 190 miles over hill and dale to raise money for our Building Together Fund. We want to hear from other like-minded ladies (age no object) who would like to join us for some or all of the walk.
We will set off on Thursday, 1st September and with a few
rest days in between we hope to arrive at our destination by Saturday, 17th
September. We realise that for some it is a big commitment of time, but if
you want to come along for a few days then that will be fine. The group will
be
sponsored as a whole, rather than individually, in order to accommodate any
part timers
.
We will guarantee a percentage number of walkers from the group will walk each
day.
As well as walkers we will need considerable back up. If you feel you can help in the preparation (looking for suitable accommodation, finding sponsors, etc), or during the walk by offering transport (we need to get our overnight bags from one base to another, and a back up car each day for emergencies) then please do let us know. Any help will be very much appreciated. In order to keep the costs to a minimum we hope to use Youth Hostel and B & B accommodation where possible.
If you intend to walk with us we need to know by Sunday, 27th February 2005 so that accommodation can be booked. Anyone wishing to join the group after that date, either as a walker or as back-up providing transport, is very welcome but would have to be responsible for finding their own accommodation along the way.
We hope to make a really big effort for the Building Together Fund as well as having a lot of fun and laughter on the way. If you want to join us or want to talk about it in more detail please contact Delma Whitman, Margaret Squire, Barbara Hothersall or Jackie Clarke. (Contact the church number 01772 718741)
