Building Together News
Christmas
has come and gone and Easter is almost upon us. As I foretold in the last Church
magazine, we have topped £70,000! In fact, we have raised £74,336.51. Our final
event was the pantomime which brought in about £2,000. It was very successful
on all fronts. We shared fun and fellowship and I think gave pleasure to a lot
of
folk (we were fully booked for each performance) and we are left with many happy
memories.
For the remainder of Lent there will be no more fund raising activities so that we can step back and concentrate on our spiritual journey. After Easter, we shall continue along our fund raising road and we have a few things planned already. We are hoping to organise a sponsored fun run / walk on Moor Park on April 23rd. This is for the youth of the Church and we hope that many of our young people will take part and that they will have a lot of supporters there to cheer on them on. In September, there will be a sponsored event for the other end of the age spectrum. A few ladies from Ladies after Eight are planning to walk from Coast to Coast (St Bees to Robin Hood's Bay). Anyone who wishes to join them from time to time will be very welcome as will assistance in transporting their luggage from place to place. This is quite an undertaking and we will keep everyone informed.
After Easter, Elmer the fund raising elephant will come back into the limelight. She will be brought up to date and some more of her squares will be painted. Being a lady, she would prefer not to have too much grey showing! Seriously, we intend that she will show where we are with relation to the Genesis Fund of £400,000. It is also planned that a 'baby Elmer' will be made which will be used as a fund raising thermometer and she will rise as the funds raised increase. It has not yet been decided where she will be placed but there are plans.
We hope to have the regular events: a Spring plant sale in May, a Book sale in July, a Jigsaw puzzle sale sometime and on Friday April 22nd, a Bric-à-Brac sale and in June another Garden Safari. There will be other things going on as well. We do not intend to rest upon our laurels!
