Six reasons for attending church on a wet Sunday
- It says in the Ten Commandments that God blessed the Sabbath Day and hallowed it - but He did not make exceptions for when it was hot, cold, or stormy.
- I never find the minister stays at home because of the rain.
- By staying away I may miss the prayer which would help me and the very sermon which would do me much good.
- Rainy weather would never keep me away from an important business appointment - and God regards Church attendance as very important business.
- Such weather will show how strong my faith really is; it will prove how much I love Christ.
- It is true there may be very few people at Church when I get there, but Jesus made a special promise that He would be where two or three were gathered together in His name.
This comes from the Memoirs of the hymn-writer
Frances Ridley Havergal (Take my life and let it be
; Master
speak, Thy servant heareth
, etc.) who actually wrote down twelve such
reasons. Although she was often ill she refused to be deterred from going to
Church whether it was wet or fine.
