Gran Canaria Church
I have written about this church before, and this year it was particularly dear to us as we celebrated our Ruby Wedding Anniversary there. At that service we asked the congregation— representing many nations— to pray for a spirit of enthusiasm for Fulwood Methodist Church during its fund raising.
The Evangelical English Church,
in Playa
del Inglés
,
at present shares premises within the Ecumenical Centre which adjoins the local
Roman Catholic Church. These premises are rented and that is
proving to be an unsatisfactory situation.
Their Pastor, Donald Davies, has a vision of them building a church of their own. A plot of land has been found but legal problems have cropped up which may take months or even years to sort out! Their newsletter asks for our prayers in seeking the right path to take, so that they can carry out the work as they intend. They want to make it a centre to cater for the needs of the islanders, as well as the many visitors who come to this church: 5,000 of them last year.
The small local congregation, of about thirty people, is willing to embark on this mammoth task. They feel it is a necessity for supporting islanders: some come to live there with fantastic dreams far removed from the reality they find when they become residents. As they discover the truth of their situation, drugs and alcohol sometimes become a demanding crutch and emotional problems abound. The church wants to befriend these people, as well as the many tourists who visit each year. Please pray with us and add them to your prayer list.
If you want to know more they have their own website.
