BUILDING TOGETHER NEWS - TALENTS

After a somewhat slow and gentle start, Peter’s talents appeal is beginning to gain momentum.

Some folk, myself included, are still considering how best to use their ‘talent’ so haven’t yet claimed it. Others have put their minds to the problem and have come up with ideas which are still in the planning stage. A few weeks ago in NftP you read about ‘Cafe Cushing’. Liz Ellison, Morag MacManus and Mavis and Len Fletcher all have plans in the crafts line. Ben Ferris and his friends are planning a Talent Show, Barry Crossley’s colleagues in ‘Singing for Pleasure’ are seriously considering a concert next year. Kay Speight is hoping to arrange some high tea and video shows. Cath Rae’s lemon cheese is already well established and the fund has received a nice little income from her culinary efforts so far.

It was also reported in NftP that we had received £114.19 from Alison Harvey. Alison has given her permission to publish the letter we received with her cheque.

"From the end of April until we broke up for the summer holidays I have baked cakes for the Challenge and sold them to the staff at work. In total I have baked and sold:-

6 ginger sponges; 16 carrot cakes; 5 orange sponge cakes; 5 lemon sponge cakes; 270 caramel shortcakes; 64 syrup flapjacks; 320 chocolate flapjacks.

Thanks to the support I received from my work colleagues I have been able to increase the £10 given to me by £114.19.

I am pleased that I was able to take part although at times it was quite difficult to fit in all the baking for my cake sales as well complete orders which often seemed to come all at once.

The Challenge opened up avenues of conversation and enabled me to feel that I was using my talent for the glory of God. Thank you for the opportunity."

More recently, Ray Armstrong gave us £200 with the following:-

Since taking up the £10 Challenge for the Building Together Fund I have valetted 10 cars and one bicycle.

Some of the cars proved to be more of a challenge than others but I have enjoyed the experience. One ‘customer’ even used my services three times. Although, the take up from Church members has been very limited, I was encouraged by the amount I have raised. A total of £250, so with expenses taken off I have given the Fund Raising Committee £200.

We were delighted to receive both monies and our sincere thanks and congratulations go to both Alison and Ray. Our best wishes to every one else who is about to launch their activities.

This is only the beginning but, so far, it’s looking good!
