Gran Canaria English Church

Evangelical English Church, Playa del InglesIn March this year we twice visited the Evangelical English Church in Playa del Ingles on Gran Canaria. The church was warm and friendly and simply decorated. It was in a complex containing the Roman Catholic Church, too, in fact they were built at right angles to one another.

The congregation came from all over Europe, Canada and America. The church was decorated in white and had a plaster 3D fresco on one wall, depicting a seascape, accessed by a door with the view beyond.

The service started with a prayer and then all the hymns were sung one after the other. The hymn singing was led by two people at the front with microphones.

The minister made everyone welcome and told them to sit or stand and worship in whatever way they were comfortable. They handed out laminated details of how to find the church to take back to everyone's holiday accommodation to spread the word about the church.

On our second visit the church was getting ready to go off on a three day retreat. Funnily enough the retreat was being led by Steve and Wendy Forrester from Wordsong Ministry, Southport and Worship by Robert Strange from Ebenezer Baptist Church in Mold.

The whole of the service was filled with praise and thanksgiving and we were able to add in prayers for our son and his wife as they expected their baby, who had the grace to wait for us to arrive back in Lancashire before coming into the world.

We shall be glad to go back to this happy church as we are always glad to go to the one in Los Christianos in Tenerife.
