I
was born in Preston, brought up in Blackburn, went to St. Wilfred's Church of
England High School, attended an Evangelical Church in Ribchester and became
a Christian in my teens. John was born in Malta, but spent his youth travelling
through Europe, as his dad was in the forces. He attended boarding schools in
Germany and England and had connections with the Church, but it was after the
breakdown of his first marriage that he began his walk with God.
We came to Fulwood Methodist Church from North Road Christian Fellowship, shortly before our marriage in April 1999. John had family ties at Fulwood; his Auntie Hazel and of course his mum and we were made very welcome by Stephen, Myrtle and the congregation.
Between us John and I have 6 children, my daughters Becky (15) and Rachel (12) live with us. They both attend Archbishop Temple School. Becky is in her final year and would quite like to work with animals; Rachel's best subject is science and for a while now she has wanted to be a forensic scientist. John's children live with their mum 5 minutes up the road from us; Melissa (19), Craig (15), Lucy (14) and Nathan (11). This year Nathan joins his brother and sister at Ribbleton Hall High School; both he and Lucy will be familiar to some of you as they often come to Church with us.
During my adult life I have only had two jobs; before having children I was employed by BT as a telephonist after having children, once they were both at school, I went back to college to train as a nursery nurse and I now work as a classroom assistant at Ribbleton Avenue Methodist Junior School. John has had numerous jobs, but currently works for Jonesco making tool boxes and mudguards for lorries: he is however, much happier on match days as he is also employed as a crowd safety steward at PNE.
Along with some of our children, we are members of ACTS and thoroughly enjoy participating in the dramas and other areas of worship, as well as taking part in the larger pantomime / musical productions. Recently John was nominated to become a Church Steward and has spent the past few months getting to grips with his new duties. Shortly afterwards I too was approached and asked if I would be willing to take on the duties of Communion steward, I am still somewhat apprehensive, but trust that familiarity with my new tasks will ease my nerves. We are both honoured to have been given the opportunity to serve God's family at Fulwood, we are privileged to be able to worship with you and greatly appreciate the love, care and friendship that has been shown to us over the past 4½ years.
