In
the summer we will be sharing in an American exchange of pastorates. This means
that I exchange churches with a minister of the United Methodist Church for
six weeks. We will be going to Manchester (of all places) in Pennsylvania. During
this time Keith and Diane Schmuck and their 17 year old son Jason will be living
in the manse and sharing in the life of Fulwood Methodist Church.
Keith
has been minister at St Paul's for two and half years. The church has about
620 members with an average worship of 275. This will be his first exchange
and he is really looking forward to sharing in the life at Fulwood through preaching,
teaching and visiting. Diane is presently working alongside children with learning
disabilities. Jason is in 11th grade at High School and loves working
with computers, creating videos for class projects and all aspects of the theatre.
There are two other children who will be staying in the States, Jonathan (23)
and Jeffrey (21).
Manchester
is a small town of about 5,000 people, just 7 miles north of York and 25 miles
west of Lancaster. There is only one traffic light in the town! They w
ill
really enjoy the lights and life of Preston.
This is a wonderful opportunity for the Church at Fulwood to understand something of our sister Church in the USA and to share in a different approach to ministry. I hope that you will really take the family to your heart and invite them for meals, coffee, trips out etc. More about that in the future but please pray for Keith, Diane and Jason as they prepare to come among us.
