Latest NftP
The latest edition is now online.
I offered last summer to coordinate church walks and rambles for this year. As the days become longer and warmer, more people may wish to join in.
It would be good to have some midweek walks, half-day walks (such as on Sunday afternoons) and possibly some shorter, evening strolls, as well as the usual whole-day Saturday walks.
At the moment I have had no offers to lead anything this Summer, so if anyone would like to plan and lead any form of walk, please ring me on 716445 so a programme can be put together.
The latest Nkanfoa newsletter brings the story up to February 2005 and is now online.
Dear Parents / Guardians and Group Supporters,
Whilst the Scout Group has been operating successfully for over 60 years, we have now arrived at a point where I must ask each and every one of you to look at our need for committed assistance by Warranted Leaders. A short time ago Richard Garratt had taken over as Cub Scout Leader with Peter Newton becoming an Assistant Leader. However, because of new work commitments Richard has had to resign as a Leader as he is unable to attend the Monday Cub meetings. At the same time both Ian Fenton and Amy Curtis (who is likely to move from Preston during the summer) have indicated that they wish to stand down from Beavers at the start of the summer holidays.
Despite having some very good support from parents who help at meetings on a rota and who help with transport; this will not be sufficient to enable the Group to continue in all sections. We must have at least 2 warranted leaders in each section (3 would be far better). This means that we must find 2 or 3 leaders for the Beaver Section, 1 or 2 leaders for the Cub Section and 1 leader for the Scout Section. It is a funny position when you consider that we have 25 Scouts and could split into 2 Scout Troops (if we had another 2 Scout Leaders) but we may have to consider closing other sections because of lack of leaders. I would also point out that the existing leadership is becoming long in the tooth and an influx of younger leaders would be welcomed.
Please consider whether you could accept this challenge to continue shaping the delivery of Scouting and all that it means to young people. I am more than happy to talk to you if you want to know more about the commitment that is required.
Yours in Scouting,
