Galloways walk thanks

Many sincere thanks to those who contributed to the sum of £38 (over £45 with Gift Aid) as a result of my walk along Blackpool Prom from Bispham, for Galloways Society for the Blind, in September.

I thoroughly enjoyed baking and selling my Fairtrade cakes and pies last month. I appreciated all the compliments received and I’m pleased to announce that I made £39 profit for our next Church Charity Project, St Catherine’s Hospice, and starts us towards our £1,000.

Inter-faith talks

Another evening has been arranged when we will be addressed by people of other faiths, which will give us an opportunity to listen to what they have to say about their religion and their rôle in it.

At 7.30pm on Wednesday, 30th November, in the Staff Room at St. Peter’s, Meadowfield, Mr Ishwarbhai Tailor from the Gujarat Hindu Society, Preston will tell us about the Hindu faith.

I hope to have a Sikh come to talk to us on Wednesday, 7th December and a member of the Jewish faith to talk to us on the 14th.

Harris orphanage

I am trying to find a few people who attended the Harris orphanage in the early 1950s.

My father is the young boy Jimmy mentioned in the composition and can remember all the young boys and governor. He recalls the gentleman who wrote the piece as being the scout master. He was really happy when I found this on the internet and would love to be in contact with a few more people from the Harris, in particular he is trying to trace an old friend mentioned, Roger Chamberlain.

Any help would be much apreciated and would make my father a very happy man.

I do not know a lot of his past history, I also knew no Grandparents. I do know that it was not a happy time for him. I know he was in callipers as a child and had difficulty walking. I also know that his brothers were in the orphanage too but his sisters stayed at home.

Please help me make my dad a happy man, he’s not well in his older years and I’m sure it would cheer him up immensely.

Thank you,
Mrs Griffin

Building Together for Autumn

There is much to report in the way of money received. The plant sale brought in £342 and most of the plants were sold, which was excellent. The Coast-to-Coast has, so far, raised the staggering sum of £5 167.49 and there is still some outstanding.

39th Fulwood Methodist Rainbows

For anyone who does not know us, we are the branch of Girlguiding UK for five to seven year olds. We meet in the church hall on Thursdays between 5.45 and 6.45 in term time. We play games, sing, do crafts and have fun!

We are in the fortunate position of having a full unit of fifteen girls at the moment and several names on our waiting list. Whilst we are always happy to take enquiries about possible new members, this does mean that we are unlikely to have any spare places until Spring 2006. If there are any families with girls of any age between newborn and five who may want to join us then we ask you to contact us as soon as possible to have their names on our waiting list to avoid future disappointment.

Prayer

Thank you to all those who returned the questionnaire about prayer. We have taken up the ideas and suggestions contained in them. We now have a portable Prayer Tree in church that can be used at meetings of the various church groups and we are happy to report that it is being used.

The prayer chain

The prayer chain is moving from just a telephone service to one using e-mail. If you would like to be on the prayer chain, for both urgent and regular prayer, please contact Christine Sheasby and she will add you to the list.

We recognise that this is not for everyone, it takes time and commitment, but, if you feel you can help, we want to offer you the chance to join in.

Below are the guidelines
