Five-a-side

Because of the weather, the five-a-side tournament went ahead this morning indoors. For reasons of space, the teams were reduced to four-a-side and a number of photos of the event are kicking off the church’s online photo album.

Please excuse the pun.

If you took part in the tournament then please comment below to tell us what you thought of the event.

Rain moves play

Due to the inclement weather, the five-a-side football will now be held at church and not on Moor Park.

The Interface: where Christianity meets culture

Does Christianity clash with culture or complement it? Can faith contribute to politics? Should biblical values influence how we respond to contemporary issues? The Interface provides a new forum for people to consider how Christian faith affects their understanding of todays issues.

The site is an initiative of the Methodist Interface Group, which explores contemporary issues from a faith-based perspective.

Help required for Breakout in Blackpool

Breakout is an event run by the Methodist Church to enable young people from across the country to gather in one location, have fun and worship in a safe and friendly environment. This year Breakout is going to be at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool.

Breakout runs from Friday, 7th July until Sunday, 9th July. We desperately need volunteers to help steward the event, this involves checking tickets, manning doors and generally looking out for the young people.

Further details are available on the Circuit website.

Building Together in Spring

Sponsorship money from the Moor Park fun run continues to come in. The fund-raising group will be pleased to accept any outstanding money as soon as possible.

Do not forget the plant sale, which will be held on Saturday, 20th May between midday and 2 o’clock. Forms for advance orders are now available in the church hall or from the Fund Raising Group. Phil Dunnett from Ribblesdale Nursery will also be here, selling plants and dispensing advice. Refreshments will be available as part of the Ladies Weekend activity.

Forthcoming events

On Saturday, 24th June we shall be holding a barbecue at the home of Sue and Chris Penrith, 27, Highfield Drive, Fulwood. One month later, on Saturday, 22nd July there will be a book sale in the church hall.

Is recycling fun? fc2 has fun with recycling materials

The following article is also available for download as a PDF.

Wednesday, 31st May from 2–4pm

Yes— you can use recycled materials to make models which you can then use at home or in Church! Edna Armstrong has developed a number of projects to suit all ages and abilities, using materials that we might usually throw away! Everyone is welcome (although we do ask children aged 7 or under to bring a grown-up with them).

What is your Challenge?

Collect the following materials from your home or from friends and family:
small, round water bottles
caps from milk containers
cereal boxes
coloured plastic bags
juice ‘tetrapaks’ (washed out please!)
cardboard egg boxes
kitchen roll / foil / cling film middles (not toilet roll middles!)
Put the items collected in the box at Church outside the parlour.
Come to the hall and make models from the materials collected.

What do I do next?

Please take a leaflet from the fc2 box, fill in the slip at the bottom and return this to the fc2 box— this way we will know how many people to expect.

Then come along to Fulwood Methodist Church on Wednesday, 31st May at 2 pm, wearing your old clothes and an apron.

How do I collect my stamp?

Bring your fc2 folder with you to the event and we will stamp it when you are there! If you can’t come to the event, but you can bring in lots of materials, show the fc2 team in the hall or the fc2 representative who comes to your group what you have brought along before you put it in the box and you can get a stamp for this too.

Church and fc2 photo albums

We have opened up two new online photo albums: one for pictures from fc2 events and activities and one for other church events. You are encouraged to add your own photographs to the albums but you must not identify any individual under the age of eighteen by surname.

Building Together in May

The Moor Park event was a great success. We were blessed with excellent weather and a good crowd gathered on the park. There were 87 competitors covering all ages and £339 was received in donations and registration fees. We thank the Guides who, despite being unable to participate, donated £100. We have already received £35 from sponsorship and we shall keep you informed as the money comes in.

This was also the first Family Challenge event and the sight of families enjoying themselves with red and yellow balloons all over the park was very satisfying.

Congratulations to Emily Heggie who won the 3km run and Jason Parker, winner of the 5km run.

Thanks go to all the helpers: Lyn Fenton and Jan Astley on registration (Jan was not in evidence because she has to keep rushing back to church to copy more certificates!); Barrie Crossley as our scribe; Moira Black as First Aider and waterer; Judith Harvey on tea and coffee; Margaret Squire, Sue Haywood and Mandy McGregor were the holders of the tape; and Stephen Poxon, Ken Wales and Stephen Grice each performed the rôle of starter.

The marshalls were Andrew McKinnell, Tom McAllister, Christine and Shane Marshall, Veronica Frost and Ian Fenton. Morag McManus and Edna and Ray Armstrong had also helped beforehand in providing signs and marshalls’ sashes as well as writing certificates. Our thanks go also to Terry Blackburn, the Park Ranger, who made us very welcome and allowed us to use the pavilion facilities. Thank you to all who took part.
