Building Together - Fund-raising News

First of all! Apologies – the April Cake Stall raised £98.35 not £998.35! A very good amount nevertheless, The May Cake and Produce Stall raised £39.75. It had not been advertised the week before so we are very grateful to those who brought cakes. Next cake stall is on Sunday 1st June, please bake and buy.

On Saturday 3rd May we were blessed with wonderful weather for the walks along the Lancaster canal. About 70 folk took part and we are very grateful to the Scouts, Cubs and Brownies who supported us as well as members of the Church family. The Lancashire Evening Post sent a photographer to Church to photograph the Scouts (and Sue and Barry) departing in the bus. Particular thanks go to Don Bryson who sorted out the various walks, who drove the minibus, pitched the tent etc, and generally exuded an air of calm. Thanks to Lyn Fenton for producing the certificates and to Barry Crossley who, as well as walking the ten miles, acted as our scribe and filled in all the certificates. Thank you to Joan Smith who with Mavis and Len Fletcher and Veronica Frost who kept watch on the canal to make sure everyone came off at the correct point for the park. Thanks to Ellen Gregory, Moira Black and Heidi Walton for manning the tea urn and to Moira and Veronica for washing up at the end of the event. To everyone who took part and helped make it a wonderful day, thank you very much indeed. Once all the sponsor money comes in we will be able to report on how much has been raised. We appreciated the presence of Stephen Poxon and the Rev Oscar Bolioli and his wife Stella who had recently flown in from Uruguay and a final thank you to Myrtle for presenting the certificates.

Arisen!

The worship band (now known as Arisen!) are looking for some help. We’ve recently grown to the point that we have 4 or 5 regular vocalists plus a selection of instruments ranging from guitar to cello and trumpet to drums - which is fantastic! As a band, we play in worship perhaps once a month or so, but are keen to see how we can develop our skills into other areas— such as performing modern Christian music in outreach or fund-raising events, either within the Church or externally. We are also keen to work with the Choir and other musical resources within the Church. We are making full use of the sound systems that are available to us, and have a great technical resource in the form of John Allcock but could really do with someone to work with us as our Sound Engineer for when we play in worship and other events. We’re looking for someone who has a good understanding of how sound systems work, including the use of our mixing desk, and who can manage / balance the sound for us whilst we are playing. This would be a great role for anyone studying Music Technology or who has a background in that area, but would equally suit an enthusiastic amateur who has a keen ear plus an interest in music technology and sound engineering, and who would like to contribute their skills to worship in this way!

If you think this may be for you, please let us know! Talk to Mike Cushing on 07866 476639 or via email
