How to post to this site

For centuries, Christians have embraced and developed new media (remember Gutenberg?). I firmly believe that the internet should be helping us to communicate our message to the people of Fulwood, Preston and, while we are at it, the world.

In order to achieve this, we cannot rely on one keen amateur to keep the website up-to-date and up and running. For this reason, the entire structure of this site has changed radically over the last eighteen months or so in order to allow others to post. I would encourage all those within the church who may have something to share to use this facility.

Instructions for experts are available, but they are strangely hard to follow and over-complicated.

In order to post, you first need to register. This step is easy: simply complete the form with your desired username and your email address. A password will be sent to you by email, probably within minutes. Once you have your password, you may of course log in.

You will see the ‘dashboard’: from there you can write a post, manage posts you have previously written or update your user profile— all these options can be selected from the menu.

One of the first things you should do is to change your password and update your profile from the “Users” menu. Ignore any items that you do not understand.

You start off as a humble ‘author’. Authors can write articles but these will not appear to the general public until an administrator has approved them. The biggest advantage of this is that you need not worry about making a mistake. You will not break this site!

Writing an article

To write an article, type the title in to the box marked “Title” and the content of your article in to the box marked (less helpfully) “Post”. Until you are comfortable, I recommend that you do not select “Advanced editing” (although nothing bad will happen if you do). Please select an appropriate category (or two, or three) for your article from the list. If you cannot find an appropriate category then please let me or another administrator know.

You need not worry about the “Trackback a URI” box (by all means use it if you know what you are doing).

From here you can either “Save as draft” (to submit your article to an administrator for approval) or “Save as private” (only you will ever see this post).

You should remember to log out when you have finished.

I shall conclude for now by pointing you towards some Tips to make your posts easier to read.
